Mistake: Let your technology environment evolve on its own
It’s so easy to just add a new PC or piece of network equipment as needed and be done with it. Life goes on, and you’re okay (for now). The problem is that as you continuously do this, your technology environment grows into an unmanageable hodge-podge. Offices often try to add new equipment and find that they have run out of space, or network ports, or some other resource they didn’t think of.
Best Practices
Have an IT plan. An IT plan will define how everything is to work as it grows. Think of the IT plan as the “big picture” before the environment gets big (and complex). It will be your map to show how all the pieces fit in the puzzle.
